We've been intending to revisit Transformer for breakfast or tiffin e'er since our dinner see way dorsum inward April. Somehow though we've failed, lazily opting for Wide Open Road or finding ourselves at Smith too Daughters instead. So it was amongst much enthusiasm that nosotros bring together Steph, Hayley too a big vego crew for a breakfast meet-up early i Sat morning. The infinite is only every bit impressive inward the daytime every bit it was at nighttime - lots of greenery, a beautiful high ceiling too a pretty relaxed vibe. It was surprisingly quiet, actually, given the shit-fight that breakfast inward Fitzroy ordinarily entails.
The carte du jour is brusk - only 6 dishes, iii of which are vegan or veganisable (half of the carte du jour is GF every bit well). I went amongst the savoury Indian crumpet amongst toasted corn, avocado, ruby tomatoes, quinoa, eggplant chutney too kokosnoot yoghurt ($18) but ruined its vegan-ness past times taking upward the optional poached egg added on transcend (+$3).
This is the sort of matter that Transformer does too then well, amongst their slightly fancy too master accept on vego food. The crumpet is thick too soft, perfect for slathering amongst chutney, avo, yoghurt or eggy goodness. There's a dainty mix of textures too flavours (although the quinoa feels similar a slightly pointless addition) too it's a decent sized dish, leaving me pretty stuffed.
Cindy inevitably chose the buckwheat too wild rice hotcakes, amongst java cacao ganache, mascarpone, appointment syrup too snap-dried Mandarin ($18).
This was the visual highlight of the repast too at that topographic point were potent arguments made around the tabular array that a vegan version of this is a crucial improver to Transformer's menu. The hotcakes were thick too cakey - noticeably gluten-free, but non inward a bad way. The trimmings were where things genuinely went upward a notch though - the dried mandarins adding tartness too squelch too the impossibly rich ganache making this a breakfast dessert to remember.
Transformer is a winning breakfast selection inward Fitzroy - it caters good to vegans too coeliacs, getting a tabular array doesn't take away queuing, too the measure of nutrient is high. Prices are similarly high, but I don't think anyone around the tabular array was unimpressed past times the price:quality ratio. Coffee is decent without existence memorable, too the Barry White-heavy Sat morning time soundtrack was a nifty agency to boot the weekend off. We'll endure back.
