September 6, 2007: Hooked

So when Elegant Gourmand recently raved close fish'n'chipper Hooked, mentioning killer fries together with tempura veges, I was, well... hooked. So I lined upward a quick together with casual dinner in that place prior to an opening nighttime screening of EG's post: lite tempura veges with a soy dip ($8.50), a hooked salad ($8.50; featuring mixed leaves, tomato, cucumber, bbq corn, pickled ginger, edible bean sprouts, kumera crisps together with a oil-free dressing) together with chips ($4.50 for regular size). First upward nosotros tried the tempura veges - piece Michael enjoyed them, I was less impressed. My kickoff slice was genuinely a haphazard ball of multiple veges leap together with batter that wasn't completely cooked through - non just lite together with crunchy. And in that place wasn't plenty darn sauce! Still, I am pretty shameless inwards my consumption of deep-fried foods, together with I constitute what enjoyment in that place was on offering inwards helping Michael smooth these off.

Next I unwrapped our packet of fries - thankfully these lived upward to the expectations that EG inspired! Chunky together with fleshy on the inside, with but plenty golden crispness on the outside. Again, our 90c pot of tartare sauce wasn't plenty to bathe all our potatoes, but in that place was gratuitous ketchup together with vinegar on the tabular array to alternative upward the slack.

The salad, too, was far ameliorate than I'd human face from the average fast nutrient joint. Generous mixed greens together with a lovely seize with teeth from the pickled ginger, this is the perfect counterbalance to the greasier foods I can't resist. The crunchy kumera chips were delicious, of course, but non exclusively necessary alongside the oil-fest that was the ease of my dinner.

And what of Ratatouille? I didn't honor the script together with characters equally charming equally around of Pixar's previous efforts, but the visuals are their most stunning yet. I mean value it's worth seeing on the big screen, but to gaze beyond the activity at the cute eating theatre kitchen together with gorgeous scenes of Paris-in-a-parallel-universe. The climax of the film, inwards which critic Anton Ego tastes the dish of the title, is pitch-perfect inwards its depiction of the joy of eating.

To follow this tangent fifty-fifty further, the 20 years of Pixar exhibition at ACMI continues for only i to a greater extent than month! Influenza A virus subtype H5N1 must-see for lovers of animation - it's worth the cost of admission but for the zoetrope, I swear.
