Kafe Kara, grabbing a bus to South Hobart together with visiting the Cascade Brewery for lunch. Giving the tour a miss, the gardens surrounding the visitor centre proved a pleasant diversion instead. In warmer conditions it would hold out lovely to sit down out with the greenery, but this wussy northerner preferred to taste the thought from a window spot inside. As you lot powerfulness await from a brewery, the carte du jour is total of deep-fried munchies together with meaty meals, though Michael together with I were both pleasantly surprised when nosotros encountered a "Cascade Stout together with Mushroom Pie with crusty crush on summit & served with vegetables". Then when our waiter arrived to accept our social club I had this conversation with him...
Me: Can I confirm that the stout together with mushroom pie is truly vegetarian?
Silence - but a bewildered smiling fixed on our waiter's face.
Me again: Is in that place whatsoever meat inwards it?
Pause.
Waiter, vaguely together with cheerfully: I think... I mean value there's a fighting of meat inwards that.
More dead air.
Me: ...so could you lot banking concern fit that with the chef?
Turns out there's a heapin' helpin' of beef inwards that pie. Makes sense, I suppose, but when the remainder of the carte du jour touts its meat explicitly inwards the description I was mildly surprised that they weren't openly boasting close the juicy steak chunks here.
To hold out fair, the listing of snacks, starters together with sides offers enough that's meat-free but I was quite issue yesteryear the consummate incomprehension together with passivity from our waiter. For visiting vegetarians, I'd recommend the idyllic Cascade visitor centre for a stroll, to a greater extent than or less beer together with a snack, but brand your repast booking elsewhere. We don't truly belong here.
